Vintage Inspired Quilt

vintage quiltI’ve never been particularly good at the whole vintage thing.

There are lots of vintage things and themes I love but I’ve never felt that I really have the style or know how to pull off vintage properly. It’s a bit of an art to make vintage actually look cool, rather than have it look like you just have a bunch of old, dated stuff hanging around.

My style is pretty contemporary. I’m not on trend and I’m not vintage cool. As much as I often wish I could be in either camp.

I do what works for me right now, what appeals to me in the moment.

But one thing that I had been wanting to do, that was outside of my usual zone, was to create a quilt that had a more vintage feel.

I wanted to make a quilt that was a little more timeless, had a more vintage, old world, grandma’s attic kind of feel.

Quilt Catchup

I recently realised that there are a few quilts that I haven’t posted about here, because they were made before I started blogging at Craft Crazy Mama.

Rather than bore you with a post for each quilt, I thought I’d just do a quick catch up of the few quilts that have never had their story told here.

Each of the quilts below represent a different quilting first for me. I mention what they are below so, without any further fanfare, here’s a few of my previously completed projects.

Fabric Heaven

Hi, my name is Rachael, and I am an addict.

A fabric addict that is.

I can’t get enough of it. I spend hours looking through pages and pages of fabrics and no matter how often I tell myself I’m not going to order any more fabric, I always order more fabric.

There are just so many possibilities! So many colours and patterns that I love. I’m intoxicated by all the choice and next minute, my credit card is getting another pounding.

And that’s exactly what happened a week or so ago. I went on to Fabric.com ‘just to have a look’ and ended up ordering Christmas fabric, 3 soft book panels and a matching jelly roll and charm pack.

It’s lucky my husband and I have settled on an agreement that serves us both. He gets a monthly golf membership, and I get fabric money. We’re pretty frugal on most other things and don’t go out a lot or drink, smoke or gamble, so we figure this expenditure is our little reward for all our hard work.

And I do have plans for all of this fabric.
